OneNote has a inbuilt OCR tool that provides capabilities for you to copy or search from any images.

  1. Open OneNote 2016/2013 in your system
  2. Open any OneNote Page where you have images or copy the image from which you need to copy the text into OneNote
  3. Right-click the picture, and click Copy Text from Picture
  4. Click where you’d like to paste the copied text, and then press Ctrl+V..

Works best for images which has contrast background color to text.

Restrictions: As of now, it works only for OneNote installed in Windows desktop and does not work in Browser client and also on the app that is installed from Win 10 App store or Mac store.
